EARLY SONGS OF THE EARLY SOUND FILM WITH FILM SEQUENCES
In the late 1920s, soond film displaced silent film from the cinemas. Entertainment masters like Richard Heymann, Theo Mackeben or Franz Grothe are taking advantage of the new platform to make their hits and specially written film music. Well-known hits such as “I Kiss Your Hand Madame” are born these days. Movie icons from this era include Marlene Dietrich and Zarah Leander. The sound of the title performance was Richard Tauber. Now Ernst Theis, the intendant and artistic director of the new FreudeNOW Festival, brings to life the pearls of sound films with Natalie Karl (soprano) and Michael Pflumm (tenor). “I Kiss Your Hand Madame” was last performed by the Basel Symphony Orchestra, WDR Funkhausorchester and the Munich Radio Orchestra, conducted by Ernst Theis.
